Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Wine Campus?

Founded in 1998 by wine writer, educator and international wine judge Georges Meekers, Wine Campus is an independent online wine academy. Its flagship programme, Georges Meekers’ University Wine Course, combines flexible online learning, practical tasting and personal mentorship to help students develop real wine knowledge and confidence.

2. What will I learn?

You won’t spend the course memorising endless facts.

Instead, you’ll learn how to taste wine analytically, think critically, discuss it confidently and understand why wines taste the way they do. By the end of the course you’ll be able to assess wines with confidence, explain your opinions and make informed food and wine pairing decisions.

3. Why is it called the University Wine Course?

The University Wine Course is Wine Campus’ flagship programme. It takes its name from the historic Old University Building in Valletta, where the course became a hugely popular face-to-face programme in 2006.

You do not need a university degree or any previous wine qualifications to enrol. The course is open to everyone with an interest in wine and a reasonable understanding of English.

4. Who is the course for?

The University Wine Course is suitable for anyone who wants to understand wine better, from complete beginners and enthusiastic wine lovers to restaurant, hotel and hospitality professionals. No previous wine knowledge is required.

5. How does the course work?

The course is completely online and available 24 hours a day. You study at your own pace through structured lessons and assignments, supported by practical tasting exercises using real wines. Everything is designed to fit around your own schedule.

6. How do the tasting assignments work?

Wine cannot be learned from a book alone.

Throughout the course you will complete practical tasting tasks using wines you purchase locally. The recommended wines are widely available and, wherever possible, adapted to the country or region where you live. The wines are not included in the course fee.

7. What do I need to enrol?

Very little. You need an internet connection, a computer, tablet or smartphone, a reasonable understanding of English, a corkscrew and a couple of wine glasses. Everything else is provided through the online campus.

8. Is there a real teacher?

Yes. That’s one of the things that makes Wine Campus different.

Throughout the course you are personally mentored by Georges Meekers. He reviews your assignments, answers your questions and provides individual feedback from your first lesson until your graduation.

9. Can I study whenever I want?

Yes. There are no fixed class times or scheduled lectures. You decide when and where you study, allowing you to fit the course around work, family and other commitments.

10. How are the course fees paid?

Enrolment is completed through a secure online payment system. The course fee includes full access to the online learning platform together with personal mentorship from Georges Meekers throughout your studies -a level of individual guidance that is increasingly rare in online education.

11. Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Students who successfully complete the course and all required assignments receive an official Wine Campus Certificate of Completion.

12. How long will the course take?

There is no fixed timetable. Some students progress quickly while others take longer. Because the course is self-paced, you decide how fast you move through the programme.

13. Do I keep access to the course?

Yes. Your enrolment includes lifetime access to the Wine Campus learning platform, allowing you to revisit lessons and benefit from future updates to the course materials whenever you wish.

14. Is Wine Campus independent?

Yes. Wine Campus is not owned by a winery, importer or wine merchant. This independence allows every subject to be taught objectively and without commercial influence.

15. Can I contact Wine Campus before enrolling?

Of course. If you have any questions about the course, enrolment or whether it is right for you, simply get in touch through the Contact page. We will be happy to help.
